Dr Ehsan Shandiz

Dr Ehsan Shandiz MD FRACP is a Senior Staff Specialist in Neurology with subspecialty qualifications in neurophysiology and neuromuscular disorders. He completed his neurology training at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and subsequently practised as a general neurologist before emigrating to Australia in 2017.

He completed stroke fellowships at Royal North Shore Hospital Sydney (2017-2018) and ACT Health Canberra (2019-2020), gaining extensive experience in acute stroke management.

Dr Shandiz holds a Senior Lecturer position at the University of Queensland and an Honorary Neurophysiology Fellowship at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. He has established comprehensive neurophysiology services, performing advanced diagnostic tests including Nerve Conduction Study (NCS), Electromyography (EMG), Repetitive Nerve Stimulation (RNS) and Single Fibre electromyography (SF-EMG).

He is currently pursuing a PhD in neurophysiology at the University of Queensland, with his research focusing on novel High Density Surface EMG techniques in motor neuron disease patients. His recent work on HD-sEMG applications in neuromuscular disorders was published in Clinical Neurophysiology (2025).

Dr Arash Kahrom

Dr Arash Kahrom (MD, FRACP) is Staff Specialist at Mater Hospital, where he is a member of the Mater Epilepsy Team and the Mater Epilepsy Unit Research Group. He is also a Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland (UQ), Faculty of Medicine, with an active role in teaching and clinical research.

Dr Kahrom's subspecialty interests are epilepsy and headache disorders.

Following completion of his Fellowship in Neurology with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), Dr Kahrom undertook advanced subspecialty training in epilepsy at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred Hospital—recognized as two of the leading comprehensive epilepsy centres in Australia and internationally. During this fellowship, he gained extensive experience in the evaluation and management of complex epilepsy, including advanced neuroimaging, prolonged video-EEG monitoring, and advanced therapies.

Dr Kahrom maintains an ongoing role in epilepsy research and education, contributing to the training of epilepsy fellows, neurology advanced trainees, and physician trainees, and is actively involved in clinical research through the Mater Epilepsy Unit.

He subsequently completed a fellowship in stroke medicine at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, providing expertise in the acute and long-term management of stroke, transient ischaemic attacks (TIAs), and stroke prevention.

In addition, he has special interest in diagnostic workup and treatment of headache disorders including using botulinum toxin (Botox) injection, novel targeted therapies and nerve blocks.

Dr Kahrom is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists (ANZAN), the Epilepsy Society of Australia, the Australian and New Zealand Headache Society (ANZHS), the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

A/Prof Ronald Siu

Associate Professor Ronald Siu is a neurologist who graduated from the University of Melbourne with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medical Science. He worked at the Neuropsychiatry Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital for his research project related to cognitive function.

Dr Siu completed his early medical training in Brisbane, before relocating to Sydney for both general medicine and neurology advanced training. He completed neurology advanced training in New Zealand before relocating back to Queensland.

Dr Siu enjoys teaching and research. He completed two master degrees, a Master of Public Health and Master of Philosophy, with a thesis on a familial form of spinocerebellar ataxia. He spent time at the National Institute of Health (Bethesda, USA) as part of his research. He has held teaching and academic positions at Griffith University, University of Queensland, and University of Wollongong.

He is currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and the Academic Lead for Year 3 Medicine at the Rural Clinical Unit in Toowoomba. He is a local examiner of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians specialist examination.

Dr Siu provides outpatient consultation services and inpatient care at St Andrew's Hospital and St Vincent's Hospital in Toowoomba. He also provides public services as a staff specialist neurologist at Toowoomba Base Hospital, where he serves as Clinical Director of the Neurology Department.

Dr Siu has special interest in Headache Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis, and completed a Headache Master in Australia held by the Australian and New Zealand Headache Society.
